Labor and Delivery Care

The birth of your child is a special moment in your life. You may be excited, eager, and anxious about the path ahead.

We partner with you to provide compassionate care to help make this a memorable time. From prenatal care to post-pregnancy health, we’re with you all the way, with a personalized experience for you and your baby, including:

  • A Certified Nurse Midwife with hospital privileges
  • An individualized approach to each birth and labor experience including the use of birthing balls, tubs and ambulatory fetal heart rate monitoring
  • Anesthesiologists and CRNAs (certified registered nurse anesthetists) that are available at all times
  • Car seat safety checks by certified technicians
  • Education classes including Lamaze Childbirth, Lactation, Baby Basics and Newborn CPR
  • Evidence-based care and current practices such as the "10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding", delayed umbilical cord clamping and delayed infant bathing
  • Follow-up meetings with a Certified Lactation Consultant in Family Beginnings
  • Immediate skin-to-skin contact for all deliveries including cesarean births
  • Nitrous oxide for labor pain management
  • Pre-delivery consultations with a Family Beginnings Nurse and tours of the unit
  • Private rooms and double beds for families to share the welcoming of their new baby
  • The lowest Cesarean Birth rate in the region
  • The only Level II Special Care Nursery between Boise and Spokane, providing close monitoring for babies born greater than 32 weeks or full-term babies with problems that are expected to resolve soon.

Mammography

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among women in the United States, second only to skin cancer. Routine breast care is important because early detection of any problem greatly improves your chances of successful treatment. Becoming familiar with how your breasts look and feel can assist you with noticing any changes early on. You should see a healthcare professional right away if you notice changes such as:

  • A lump
  • Fluid (other than breast milk) leaking from the nipple
  • Nipple irregularities such as dry, cracked, red, thickened, or painful skin, or an inward-turning nipple.
  • Swelling around the breast, collarbone, or armpit
