St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Named to Becker's 2025 Listing of Great Community Hospitals
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is one of 100 hospitals included in the 2025 Becker’s Hospital Review (Becker’s) listing of “Great community hospitals” released on Friday, July 11. SJRMC was one of only two hospitals from the state of Idaho to make the list.
Community hospitals recognized in the listing, per Becker’s, are “dedicated to clinical excellence, academic advancement, and personalized, whole-person care delivery. Their mission is to elevate health outcomes within the communities they serve.”
“We are thrilled to be listed among the best community hospitals by such a reputable healthcare resource as Becker’s,” said Ed Freysinger, CEO of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. “It’s always exciting when the exceptional care we provide in this corner of the country gains attention nationwide. This is a great testament to the skill and compassion our team brings to our facilities each day to create better, healthier days for our patients.”
Becker’s editorial team selected the 100 hospitals for inclusion based on their nominations and the insights from respected rankings and ratings organizations, including U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, CMS, The Leapfrog Group, the National Rural Health Association, and The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
In its announcement of the hospitals included in the list, Becker’s espoused the value of community hospitals, noting that “Community hospitals play a vital role in the fabric of the U.S. healthcare system, delivering accessible, affordable care to patients beyond major metropolitan areas. Whether serving rural regions or suburban neighborhoods, these hospitals are essential to keeping communities healthy and connected to quality care.”
SJRMC works tirelessly to deliver accessible, affordable care and, in the process, positively impact the health and well-being of the Lewis-Clark Valley. For instance:
- in 2024, it spent more than $3.7 million in capital improvements, including investments in nursing monitors, a reverse osmosis filtration system, surgical instruments and equipment, and new ventilators for critical ICU patients;
- in 2024, it also provided approximately $14 million in charitable and uncompensated healthcare services, demonstrating its continued commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay; and
- in 2023, SJRMC opened a state-of-the-art, 10-bed acute rehabilitation unit to meet the area’s growing need for inpatient rehabilitation services;
Becker’s isn’t the only organization taking note of the quality care being delivered at the hospital. In spring 2025 and fall 2024, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center earned the prestigious “A” grade for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group. In December, U.S. News and World Report named SJRMC a “2025 Maternity Care Access Hospital,” an inaugural designation bestowed upon only a few dozen hospitals nationwide ‒ hospitals that provide quality care to expectant parents (who wouldn’t otherwise have access to maternity care) and serve communities that would otherwise be maternity care deserts. Also in December, and for the second consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report named SJRMC as one of the “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.”
“Our purpose is to deliver the care people in the Lewis-Clark Valley need and deserve,” said Freysinger. “We are focused on our patients’ health, and when they get better, that’s reward in itself. These accolades are nice validations of our team and the strong partnership we have with the communities we serve.”
