Environmental Services
Health Care that is Safe.
Focus Story: Environmental Services and Linen Services Departments
Who comes to mind when you think about your last visit to the hospital? Is it the Nurse that stood by your bedside caring for your every need, the technician that walked you through the procedure that you were about to have, or even the doctor that’s bed side manner made you feel safe and protected? All of these people play a very important role in your care experience and work collectively to get you through your time of need and back to the life and loved ones that you enjoy. However, they are only one piece of a complex care team.
Behind the scenes there are many more people that contribute to your care experience that you might not initially think about. These people work in the Support Services areas and often you might not even see them. They keep the air and heat functioning, the nourishing food warm, and the rooms clean and sanitized. Still many more people are delivering the supplies, producing the forms, and handling the mounds of paperwork needed to keep every detail orderly. All together there are literally hundreds of people working diligently behind the scenes to create an exceptional care experience.
Take the Environmental Services (ES) Department for example. Here you will find forty-eight team members with over 429 years of combined St. Joseph work experience. This dedicated staff works around the clock day in and day out to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and fellow staff members. These ES staff members are responsible for cleaning the hundreds of patient and procedure rooms, the over 235 bathrooms, and nearly a half million square feet of working space.
The Linen Services Department is another great example of a well oiled team that is dedicated to your overall care experience. This team is comprised of eight members that have over 81 years of combined St. Joseph work experience. Together this team is responsible for laundering, processing, and delivering all the clean linens that are used in patient rooms, procedure rooms and in Surgery. All together this team processes over 890,400 pounds of linen every year.
The next time that you have an opportunity to visit our facility take a moment to look for all the “behind the scenes” supporting staff that is quietly and diligently working away to make your care experience as pleasant and safe as it can be.
